SRK gets nostalgic on Father's 35th death anniversary

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan remembered his freedom fighter father Meer Taj Mohammed Khan on his 35th death anniversary. The 49-year-old actor, who has always been vocal about his parents, took to Twitter to share his feelings about his father. "Years accumulate and our wounds turn into water, and reflect the unlikely glimmer of happiness in moments of remembrance. 35 years since I saw my dad," he tweeted. Shah Rukh is currently in Hyderabad shooting for his upcoming film "Dilwale", which will see him reuniting with one of his favourite co-stars Kajol after a gap of five years. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the movie also stars Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Johnny Lever, Boman Irani, Kabir Bedi among others. "Dilwale" will hit theatres on December 18.

Train engine derails at Falaknuma

Several trains were delayed for some time due to derailment of rail engine without any bogies at Falaknuma Railway Station, near here, today. The arrival of trains from Kurnool and Bangalore were delayed in the morning and local MMTs trains up to Falaknuma were partially cancelled and restricted to Kachiguda due to the derailment, according to railway officials. Several trains starting from Secunderabad and Kachiguda Railways Stations were also delayed for some time in the morning due to the mishap. However, the track clearing work at the Railway Station was completed.

Asad Owaisi demands Minister's dismissal for controversial remark

Flaying Union minister Mahesh Sharma for his comments that A P J Abdul Kalam was a great nationalist despite being a Muslim, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi today demanded his dismissal for "suspecting" the nationalism of 17 crore Indian Muslims. Owaisi said it was a travesty that even after 69 years of independence, the nationalism of Muslims was being suspected by a minister and wondered if Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his opinion. "He (Sharma) clearly says that the late (President) Kalam despite being a Muslim was a nationalist and humanist. What does that convey? In plain and simple language, it clearly says that Muslims cannot be trusted. "It is a travesty that even after 69 years of independence of this great nation, we have a minister in the Modi cabinet who is suspecting my nationalism," he said. He called Sharma, the culture minister, an "uncultured" man who must be "kicked out" from the government. Owaisi demanded that the Prime Minister clarify whether his government viewed the 17-crore Muslims of the country as "not nationalists". "Is this the opinion of the Prime Minister that this government views 17-crore proud Muslims in India as not being nationalist... I would like to know from Modi who has said that he wanted Muslims to have Quran in one hand and computer in the other hand," he asked. "We have renamed Aurangzeb Road after a person, who despite being a Muslim, is a great nationalist...," Sharma told a news channel.

Two Nigerians among four held in online matrimonial fraud case

Four persons, including two Nigerians, were arrested from Delhi by Hyderabad Police for allegedly cheating a city-based woman to the tune of Rs 15.62 lakh in a case of online matrimonial fraud, police said today. The Nigerian offenders--Igbute Kingsley Ucheka alias Tony and Igbute Jude Nwabulor, and two others-- Santosh Kumar from Bihar and Dhirendra Kumar from Uttar Pradesh-- were apprehended on September 13 in Delhi and brought on transit warrant to Hyderabad today, Joint Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) T Prabhakar Rao told reporters here. "The modus operandi of the group is that they register themselves as prospective bridegrooms on matrimonial websites using fictitious names. They pose as high-profile businessmen or professionals staying abroad and then target women, particularly widows or singles, who are looking for a suitable life partner, on the pretext of marriage alliance," the JCP said. Once the victims fall into their trap, they start squeezing money from them saying that they are sending some expensive gifts, which the victim need to claim through the Customs, etc, the senior police officer said. "For this purpose, the Nigerian kingpins lay down an extensive trap with the help of their Indian associates, who provide them bank accounts on fictitious names in different banks, so that the victim can deposit the amounts in these accounts and the Nigerians withdraw the amount," he said. In this particular case, the accused cheated a middle-aged woman from the city, Rao said adding that seven victims have so far lodged complaints with police, who are carrying out the investigation and trying to ascertain the total amount of fraud. In June this year, Cyberabad Police had arrested two persons, including a Nigerian national, for allegedly duping a woman school teacher of Rs 18 lakh on the pretext of marrying her.

Hyderabad to host international children's film festival in November

Hyderabad will be hosting the 19th International Children's Film Festival (ICFF) from November 14 for which a total of 1204 entries have been received online from 80 countries. Hyderabad is the permanent venue for the ICFF, which will be held between November 14 20. "A total of 1204 entries were received through online from 80 countries for the screening in this edition, including some of the award winning and reputed films," Shravan Kumar of Children Film Society of India (CFSI) stated. "It was around 900 films during the last edition," he added. The competition will be in international, international short, Asian panorama and little directors categories. "To enlighten the children, five workshops along with a special workshop on the digital making of films will be conducted," he said in a statement. Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting ministry has asked organising committee to make the event successful by coordinating the efforts of different departments of Central and the Telangana governments. At a review meeting held on Friday in connection with ICFF, Sunil Arora, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said the film festival should be more entertaining, interactive, informative and fun for the children, according to an official release. Telangana chief secretary Rajiv Sharma said the opening and closing ceremony will be held at Lalitha Kala Thoranam. The IMAX theatre will be the main venue for screening of the films along with 11 more theatres, the release added.

BJP rubbishes report over Owaisi-Modi meeting

BJP today asserted that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is fielding candidates in some of the assembly constituencies in the upcoming Bihar polls, has not met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said a defamation case will be slapped against the newspaper which claimed such a meeting had taken place. Terming the media report as an "absolute fabrication and pernicious lie", party spokesperson M J Akbar told reporters here that it was an example of "yellow journalism at its worst". He said BJP will file a defamation case against the newspaper seeking heavy damages. The story was part of a conspiracy to further a political agenda, he alleged. Owaisi's party has decided to field candidates in the Seemanchal region of Bihar where Muslims are in large numbers. Some leaders of the grand alliance of JD(U)-RJD-Congress have alleged that Owaisi was doing it to help BJP by seeking to divide Muslim votes in next month's polls to the 243-member Bihar Assembly. Taking a swipe at Congress, Akbar said the survey by American think tank PEW showed that Modi was more popular than Rahul Gandhi. He said Modi's popularity was the "biggest strength" for the BJP. The survey, which had 2,452 respondents, was carried between April and May this year. "It (survey) shows that even the supporters and voters of the Congress are running away from the dynasty. And they are connecting with the developmental agenda of Modi. You will find an evidence of this in Bihar elections," he said. Meanwhile, asked if the Centre will declassify filed related to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as the West Bengal government did today, he parried the query saying the Prime Minister will take a final call on the basis of the national interest.
