Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis enter second round of Australian Open

World number one pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis today advanced to the second round of the Australian Open Tennis, the first Grand Slam of the season. The Indo-Swiss pair defeated the Colombian-Brazilian team of Mariana Duque-Marino and Teliana Pereira 6-2, 6-3. This was the Sania and Hingis' 31st consecutive victory as a pair. They have already surpassed surpassed the duo of Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva who had a world record of winning 28 matches in a row in 1994. The Indo-Swiss pair have, so far, won 11 titles together, including Wimbledon and US Open last year. Yesterday, Mahesh Bhupathi and his Luxembourg team-mate Gilles Muller had progressed to the second round. Leander Paes, however, made an exit, after he and his French partner Jeremy Chardy lost their opening game.
