Punjagutta road mishap: toll rises to 3

The grandfather of a 10-year-old girl, who died after a car driven allegedly by a drunk person hit their vehicle, today succumbed to his injuries, police said. P Madhusudan Chary (70), a retired government employee, who was among the five family members travelling in the car, had suffered multiple fractures in the accident in Punjagutta here on July 1 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He died at around 5.30 AM, Banjara Hills Police Station Inspector K Srinivas said. His granddaughter P Ramya, a Class IV student, who had slipped into coma after she sustained injuries in the crash, breathed her last on July 9. Rajesh, brother of Ramya's father, had died on the spot on July 1 when an oncoming car driven by Shraveel, a 20-year-old engineering student, hit a road divider and flung into air before falling on his four-wheeler, police earlier said. "While three members of the family died in the incident, two others survived with injuries," Srinivas said. The accused was later arrested and booked on charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under relevant sections of IPC. He is currently in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the distraught family members of Ramya held a protest at the hospital demanding stringent action against Shraveel and other five students who were in the car, saying "it is not only Shraveel who is responsible for this incident but other occupants of the car also as they were all drunk". "Though, college management has said that the six engineering students have been suspended, but we demand that they should be immediately debarred. We lost three members of our family...we want justice. None of them should be given driving licence in their lifetime," a family member demanded. Though Ramya sat on the rear seat, she suffered multiple wounds in the accident. Telangana Minister for Animal Husbandry and Cinematography T Srinivas Yadav said he will speak to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and discuss with him the matter to bear all the medical expenses of the family members of Ramya, who died in the mishap. The family members of the girl have demanded that the state government to provide a job to one of their family members.
