KCR wants special Central funds for Hyderabad devpt

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today urged the Centre to provide special funds for development of Hyderabad in view of its size and fast-paced growth. The move to provide Rs 100 crore annually by including Hyderabad in the list of smart cities would not be very helpful, he said in a letter to Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. A committee appointed by the Centre in 2011 said the State capital requires investments to the tune of Rs 30,370 crore, Rao said. The annual budget of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) itself is Rs 5,500 crore, he said in the letter. Karimnagar, a fast-growing city in Telangana, should be included in the list of smart cities instead of Hyderabad, Rao added.
