YSRC's no-trust motion against Speaker defeated in AP assembly
The no-Confidence motion against Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Dr K. Shivaprasada Rao has been defeated by 40 votes. While 97 members opposed it, 57 members voted in favour of the No-Confidence motion moved by the opposition YSR Congress Party. Deputy Speaker Budha Prasad has announced this after holding division of vote. Earlier, Leader of Opposition, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that the ruling TDP was utilising the Speaker’s position to suppress the opposition voice. He alleged that the discussion on the no-trust motion has been intentionally taken up today even as 14-day time available, aiming at not to give sufficient time to the opposition to issue a whip to its MLAs.
The house witnessed heated and two hour long discussion between the ruling and opposition members on the no-trust motion against the Speaker. Speaking on the occasion, Several Ministers and TDP senior leaders opposed the no-trust motion against the speaker. They said Dr Shivaprasada Rao came out clean from the criminal cases against him much before he got elected as the speaker. They said Dr Rao is rule bound and giving much value to the opposition. Initiating the discussion on the no-trust motion, Shridhar Reddy of the YSR Congress, said the Speaker has been unilateral and favouring the Government all the time. Recalling Roja’s suspension for an year, the opposition members alleged that Dr Rao has been suppressing their rights.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker who chaired the proceedings said the Speaker was unwilling to conduct the proceedings in the light of the no trust served on him. A day after its No Confidence Motion against the Council of Ministers got defeated, the opposition YSR Congress party has lost another No-trust motion this time against the speaker.
