GHMC Mayor, Deputy Mayor will be elected tomorrow
The Hyderabad district administration is sending letters to all the 150 newly-elected municipal corporators and 67 ex officio members comprising MPs, MLAs and MLCs who are voters asking them to attend a special meeting to elect mayor and deputy mayor in the Council Hall of GHMC head office at 11 am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, GHMC officials are scratching their heads on how to accommodate 217 members in the council hall. The seating capacity of council hall is about 210-215 and more than that it is not possible to accommodate additional members in the hall.
Some GHMC officials feel that seating problem may not arise anticipating that corporators as well as MPs, MLAa and MLCs belonging to the Congress, TDP and BJP which were routed very badly in the elections may skip the meeting to avoid embarrassment.
District collector Rahul Bojja is sending notices in Form-II to all the 217 members requesting them to make it convenient to attend the special meeting.
The 67 ex officio members include four Lok Sabha members, 10 Rajya Sabha members, 24 MLAs and 29 MLCs representing Greater Hyderabad and enrolled as voters in GHMC limits and are thus eligible to vote in the mayoral election. To win the mayoral post, any political party requires 109 of the 217 votes.
As this is the first time the election of mayor and deputy mayor posts is being held in the Council hall, GHMC is taking precautions so as not to cause any inconvenience to the corporators or ex officio members.
