Stern action against traffic rule violators from February end
Hyderabad traffic police today said that based on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed committee on road safety, they would initiate the process of suspending driving licences of violators of traffic rules from the last week of this month.
In order to improve the safety of citizens on roads, the apex court committee on road safety has issued directions to the states and Union Territories to implement road safety laws effectively.
The panel has called for stern action against the violators by suspending their driving licences in offences like over speeding, drunken driving, red-light jumping, use of mobile phones while driving and overloading of goods and passengers.
Following this, a coordination meeting of senior officials of Traffic Police and Transport Department was held, an official release said
From the last week of February, those found driving without a valid license and the owner of the vehicle allowing such unauthorised person to drive, will be prosecuted by filing chargesheets under relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act in the respective courts of law and imprisonment would be sought, it said.
"If any individual is found indulging in overspeeding, signal jumping, overloading of passengers or goods, drunken driving and using mobile phone while driving, the process of suspending their driving licenses will be initiated," the release said.
Anyone found to driving during the suspension period of the license will be prosecuted by under relevant sections of MV Act and imprisonment would be sought from the courts, it added.
To reduce vehicular pollution in Hyderabad, it was decided to make all the vehicle-checking equipment online. All the two gas analysers in Hyderabad would be stopped and replaced with four gas analysers, the release said.
"Similarly, as per MV Act any change of address should be intimated and recorded with the RTA concerned. In order to facilitate the commuters and also to record an alternative address, an online facility has been created in Transport Department website - transport.telangana.gov.in," the release said.
Drive against not wearing helmets will be intensified in the days to come, the release added.
