Youth drowns in old city swimming pool, management booked
A 19-year-old youth drowned in a swimming pool here following which an offence has been registered against its management, police said today.
Mohd Rizwan Khan, who worked in a provisions store, went to swim in the pool in Yakatpura area here along with his four friends yesterday.
When his friends could not find Khan they searched for him and later found him at the bottom of the pool. They took him to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, Reinbazar Police Station Inspector G Ramesh said.
As per preliminary investigation, the youth is suspected to have died after suffering a head injury in the six-and-a-half feet deep pool, Ramesh said.
Asked about reports that the youth along with his friends had placed a bet on who will dive deep from the platform, the inspector denied the same.
The youth's father, who was informed about the incident, later lodged a complaint with police seeking an inquiry into the death of his son.
Following the complaint, a case under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence) has been registered against the management of the swimming pool, the police officer said.
"We are verifying if there is any fault of the coach...further investigations are on," he said.
