Police must keep people's faith, says Telangana DGP
Police force in the country has to meet the twin challenges of handling increasing diversity and complexity of crimes, and the rising public expectations, Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma said today.
"With newer challenges arising out of increasing population, rapid urbanisation, new economic and social laws, organised crime, ever increasing traffic, cyber crime, economic offences etc, the Indian police will have to continually evolve and develop efficiencies to keep crime under control, maintain public order and provide safety and security to public," he said here.
Sharma was speaking after inaugurating a day-long workshop on 'SMART Policing' organised by the Rao Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy (RBVRR) Telangana State Police Academy.
SMART police, as described by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands for strict and sensitive, modern and mobile, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, tech-savy and trained.
People only accept a reliable police system, he said, adding the acronym, SMART, summarises the qualities a common man would seek in a policeman.
Police must rise up to the expectations citizens have from them, the senior IPS officer said.
Ish Kumar, Director of the Academy, said the aim of workshop was to design a road map for implementation of the concept of 'SMART Policing'.
