Will India get a second Medal in Rio? All eyes on P V Sindhu

A day after Sakshi Malik opened India’s medal count with a dramatic bronze-winning effort, all eyes are on shuttler P.V. Sindhu as she takes on Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in women’s singles semi-final in Badminton this evening. The match is slated for 7.30 p.m. Showing extraordinary fighting spirit, 23-year-old Sakshi from Haryana ended India’s frustrating medal drought by scooping a bronze medal in the 58 kilogram category in a stunning effort. Now, Sindhu remains the country’s lone medal hope in badminton after Kidambi Srikanth suffered a loss against two-time defending champion Lin Dan in the men’s singles quarterfinals. If Sindhu wins, India will be assured of a Silver medal. If she loses, Sindhu will figure in the Bronze medal play off. In Women's freestyle 53 kilogram individual Round of 16, India's other female wrestler, Babita Kumari will be seen in action. She will clash with Maria Prevolaraki of Greece in the Round-of-16. Male wrestlers, including London Olympics Bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, will begin their campaigns later. In Women's Golf, Aditi Ashok will begin her campaign figuring in Individual Round-2. In Athletics, Usain Bolt will be featuring in the Finals of Men's 200 metres today. Bolt is aiming to achieve an unprecedented triple gold immortality. He had won the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4x100 metres in the last two Olympics. United States continues to top the medals tally with 30 Gold, 32 Silver and 31 Bronze. Great Britain is second with 19 Gold, 19 Silver and 12 Bronze. China is third with 19 Gold, 15 Silver and 20 Bronze. India is joint 70th with 1 Bronze.
