Fire at bed manufacturing unit kills woman, her 5-yr-old son

A woman and her son, aged around five years, were charred to death after a fire broke out at a bed and pillow manufacturing workshop in Krishna Nagar here this afternoon, police said. "The incident occurred around 2.15 pm when the blaze engulfed the hall of the workshop premises containing raw material," Mailardevapally Police Station Inspector S Venkat Reddy said. One Shakeera Begum (35) and her son Abbas were charred to death in the fire mishap, while some others somehow managed to escape, the police officer said. As per the preliminary investigation, the fire could have either caused due to a short-circuit or sparks generated from cooking from an adjoining room, the inspector said. Further investigation is on.
