Severe heat wave conditions continue in Telangana

In Telangana, severe heat wave conditions prevailed in several parts of the state with day time temperatures continue to record above 40 degrees Celsius across the state. The highest maximum temperature recorded at 45 degrees Celsius in Nalgonda during the past 24 hours and Nizamabad recorded 44.9 degrees while Adilabad and Bhadrachalam recorded 44.8 degrees. Meanwhile, the Met officials warned that severe heat wave conditions likely to prevail over some parts in the state for next five days. The maximum temperatures are marked 4-5 degrees above normal at almost all places in the state. AIR correspondent reports, Telangana state is reeling under scorching heat coupled with severe water scarcity as the state is facing drought conditions for the third consecutive year this time. The bore wells and hand pumps that were serving the water needs of people have dried up at many places. Besides an unrelenting heat wave, the villages in Telangana state are facing a long gap between demand and supply of water as the water levels at various reservoirs are touching zero levels. Even Hyderabad is facing the dry spell as four major reservoirs that supply drinking water to the capital city went dry for the first time in 30 years facing about 47 per cent deficit in water supply. On rural side, despite best efforts made by the state machinery to deal with the crisis and supply water through tankers, the much needed relief is evading. The heartrending scenes of shifting cattle to slaughter houses has become common in villages these days as the drought conditions hit hard the supply of water and fodder to the cattle.
